There are many reasons why you want your child to take piano lessons. Some of those reasons may include: it will help them with their school studies, it will teach them discipline, it will raise their self-esteem, it will increase their coordination and it will help them to concentrate.
I want to see all of the above come to fruition for your child but I think the most important gift you can give to them is your encouaragement and time. It's one thing to invest all your money into their extra-cirricular activities but they also want to know that Daddy and Mommy are rooting for them along their journey.
I'm teaching today because of my parents. They didn't just pay for my lessons and drop me off at my teachers house every week. They supported me from the beginning and they're supporting me today.
Out of all the extra-cirricular activities my parents invested in, piano was (and I still believe is) their favourite. They always told me that I could teach part-time while in school but that wasn't something that I was interested in. I honestly didn't see music as part of my life .
At the age of 18, I told my Mom that I was no longer going to take lessons because I wanted to concentrate on my final year of highschool. My parents were not thrilled with my decision but they understood. I am not embarrassed to say that it was almost 7 years before I touched a piano again.
Early 2007, I was encouraged to start teaching and at the time I was very skeptical. I didn't have the confidence that I could teach considering the extensive break I took. Everytime it was mentioned, I remembered what my parents had always encouraged me to do - to teach piano part-time.
November 2007 I started Piano for Beginners with 1 student and today it's still growing.
I encourage you to sit with your child on a regular basis as they practice. Come to a lesson or two with them. Attend their recitals. Encourage them to strive for excellence not just in their music studies but in everything they do.
We sometimes underestimate the power of words. The very words we speak - negative or postive - can come to pass. Speak life into your child's future just like my parents did not so many years ago.
I want to thank you for investing into their music education and choosing Piano for Beginners. One day, they too will thank you!
